So what’s the real scoop behind weight loss? Many will argue that special diet plans are needed, meal replacements, an over-abundance of exercise, and/or cutting out anything “good”. If you aren’t starving and miserable, you won’t lose weight, right? Wrong.
It frustrates me to no end when people make the issue of losing weight over-complicated. Maybe it frustrates you too. Move the topic of nutrition aside for a minute (that’s for another time), and clear your mind. Stop thinking about carbs, fats, sugars, all of it. Put it aside. Are you listening? Here comes that big “secret” that so many companies don’t want you to know about! The funny thing is, it’s no “secret” at all. It’s the simplest way to lose weight, its easy, it’s the TRUTH. It all boils down to… calories. Yup! That’s it. Calories.
Burn more calories than what you eat, and you will lose weight. Eat more calories than what you burn, and you will gain weight. It’s that simple.
If you’re not sure how to count the amount of calories you consume on a daily basis, or how to figure how many calories activities burn, here are a few tips to get you started.
- Download a calorie counter app, or a website that offers a free membership. This way, you won’t have to worry about doing the math yourself. My favorite app/website to use is MyFitnessPal. It’s very easy to use, and gives you more than just calorie stats. Search for food you’re eating, or scan the package barcode with your camera. Quickly access recipes and foods you eat often. View calories, as well as nutritional stats from food you consume. You can also invite friends and link with Facebook. You can find the link for MyFitnessPal here. No, I am not affiliated with this company, or getting paid to advertise their product.
- You could purchase a food scale to figure out calories consumed, and a calorie tracker device (such as a watch) to wear and count how many calories you burn each day.
- Always check with your health care provider to figure out what’s best for you. They can tell you how many calories you should consume, and how much activity you should be engaged on a daily basis. They can also recommend what kinds of foods you should eat, and those to avoid.
The bottom line? Put your money back in your pocket, keep it simple, and stop listening to advertisements with fake solutions from a product or empty promise. You are perfectly capable of losing weight without them!
Stay active and be well, my friends!
